About Maria Cristina Royett

Maria Cristina Royett has worked as a Career and College counselor for more than fifteen years. Her experience has been in assisting high school students in making decisions about career paths and planning the next stage of their academic lives.
Maria Cristina was born in Bogotá, Colombia. After finishing her High School at Colegio Karl C. Parrish in Barranquilla she earned her Bachelors Degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland. She continued with her Masters Degree in Public Relations from Liberty University.
In 1998, she returned to Barranquilla and worked in Special Education at Marymount School for two years. She then moved to Cartagena in 2000 and worked as a College Counselor at Colegio Jorge Washington where she started her training in College Admissions. In 2003 she moved again to Barranquilla and began at Colegio Karl C. Parrish as Middle School Counselor for a few years and then transitioned to College and Career Counseling at the same school.
As a College Counselor at Karl C. Parrish she has the liaison between universities and the School, where she offered new ideas to strengthen the program, and supported the Secondary Principal in creating and maintaining a positive student culture.
She organized several international college fairs and also prepared parent and student workshops. She met regularly with students and parents individually. She not only guided them through the application process but also counseled them in the decision-making process. She has traveled and visited several hundred institutions in the US, Europe and Colombia where she has forged strong relationships with higher education colleagues. This has given her a successful experience in college admissions and guidance.
Besides her extensive experience in admissions she was also the AP Coordinator and SAT supervisor at Colegio Karl C. Parrish. She has been an active member of The College Board and the International Association for College Admissions Counseling (International – ACAC). After moving from Colombia to the United States, Maria Cristina is thrilled to join the JCT4Education team. She believes in teamwork and she enjoys connecting and working with students and families.
