About Guillermo Machado
Guillermo Machado was raised in the Canary Islands, Spain, and spent part of his high school years at a boarding school in the UK before studying physics at Oxford University. After three years working for an environmental engineering company called Utileco, he discovered his true passion was in education, where he could combine his analytical skills with his desire to inspire and empower others. He has now dedicated the past 15 years to this field, with a focus on creating innovative educational solutions.
His journey took him to Think Global School, where he spent four transformative years teaching mathematics while living, traveling, and working in countries such as India, Japan, Costa Rica, Sweden, Peru, Bosnia, Italy, Greece, New Zealand, and Thailand. During this period, Guillermo not only taught but also led students on exciting adventures, including climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, kayaking through New Zealand’s Abel Tasman National Park, and trekking around the Machu Picchu region.
Living in these diverse locations—each for three to six months—allowed Guillermo to immerse himself in various cultures, enriching his understanding of global perspectives and gaining invaluable insights that continue to inform his educational philosophy.
In addition to his dynamic travels, Guillermo spent four years working at Shanghai American School while living in China. He also spent significant time in other countries: six years in the UK (Bedford and Oxford), five years in Andalucía, Spain, and four years in Jalisco, Mexico. In each of these places, he made a deliberate effort to understand and appreciate the local culture, observing both the shared human experiences and the unique qualities of the people. These rich cultural exchanges have shaped his approach to education, fostering a deep belief in the importance of human connection and cross-cultural empathy.
Guillermo holds a master’s degree in education and educational design, and he is now taking on leadership roles within the field. His work focuses on creating innovative solutions that meet the evolving demands of education in a rapidly changing world. In Jalisco, Mexico, he collaborated with colleagues to design a holistic Project-Based Learning curriculum for Iyari School in Careyes. He also tutored high school students in a dual-enrollment program, preparing them for university and organizing experiential learning opportunities to support their growth into well-rounded young adults.
Beyond his formal academic work, Guillermo runs Sonic Earth, a philanthropic social impact project that uses music as a catalyst for positive change. He is also working with his siblings to build a startup dedicated to optimizing personal growth facilitation for adults.
Guillermo’s mission is clear: to leverage his diverse experiences to make a lasting impact on education and personal development, empowering individuals to grow, thrive, and adapt in an ever-evolving global landscape.
